PRACTICAL USES OF TEPHROSIA PURPUREA

This is known to be an effective herb for the treatment of liver cirrhosis. 

It helps in the detoxification of the liver and also helps in the regeneration of new liver cells. It also helps to provide relief in the symptoms like nose bleeding, weight loss, decreased appetite, jaundice (yellow discoloration), anorexia/क्षुधानाश, itchy skin, weakness, abdominal swelling (ascites) and swelling of the legs (edema). Hence it is an effective herb for the treatment of liver disorders.

MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Purple tephrosia is a hardy and copiously branched plant of 30cm-60cm height. Leaves are 5 cm-10cm, long with 6mm-12mm long petioles. Leaflets are 11-21 in number with silky hairs beneath.Flowers are of purple colour.

Used as a fish poison; the leaves and seeds contain tephrosin, which paralyzes fish. Larger doses are lethal to fish, but mammals and amphibians are unaffected. It is also used traditionally as folk medicine. According to Ayurveda, the plant is anthelmintic, alexiteric, alterative, and antipyretic; it is used in the treatment of leprosy, ulcers, asthma, and tumors, as well as diseases of the liver, spleen, heart, and blood. A decoction of the roots is given indyspepsia, diarrhea, rheumatism, asthma and urinary disorders. The root powder is salutary for brushing the teeth, where it is said to quickly relieve dental pains and stop bleeding. An extract, termed ‘betaphroline’ (not a systematic name) is claimed to promote release of endorphins, and finds use in certain cosmetic preparations.

The Effect of Purple tephrosia herb

Slightly bitter, cool, toxic; lung and spleen meridians entered.

Actions

It is used to relieve exterior syndrome and clear heat, invigorate the spleen and eliminate dampness, and to promote the flow of qi and relieve pain; for the treatment of cold due to wind-heat, indigestion, externally for eczema and dermatitis.

Pharmacognostical Standardization of Tephrosia purpurea Pers Root.

Abstract

Wild Indigo or Purple Tephrosia or fish poison occurs throughout the Indian subcontinent. It is widely used in the treatment of inflammation, diabetes, rheumatism, asthma, diarrhoea and many other ailments. But so far the pharmacognostic standardization has not been reported for its proper identification. Hence the present study is a pharmacognosy work carried out for the root part. This may help in the identification of the plant species. A thin transverse section, powder microscopy, measurement of the dimensions of cell structures, fluorescence analysis and physico chemical parameters were conducted for the root. From the TS, the secondary xylem fibres and vessels were found to be the tissues of diagnostic importance. The xylem vessels were of two types: narrow and long; broad and short. The important characters in the powdered microscopy were vessel elements, fibres and xylem parenchyma cells. The different fluorescent light shades were obtained under short and long UV light for both powder as well as the extracts of the root. The proximate analysis values were also obtained in a satisfactory way. Combining all these data a suitable root profile for plant can be constructed which may help in the identification of quality of the plant part.

Wild Indigo or Baptisia or Baptisia Tinctoria is a member of the legume family. They are also known as wild Indigo plants. It is native to regions of North America. The well-known indigo dye is obtained from Baptisia Tinctoria

Baptisia Tinctoria has wound healing properties. When you get cuts and scratches on your skin, Apply Baptisia. It is an Antiseptic. It stops the infection from spreading through the Blood Stream. It rebuilds the Skin tissues and repairs the injured part of the body. All Cuts, Injuries, Ulcerations and Infections can be healed by this Herb. It is a good remedy for Skin Ulcers and Boils. My wife is the patient of IBS without diarrhea as per doctor diagnosed in Saudi Arabia. she feel heaviness after taking water and gas after eating food even though it is not spicy, she is suffering this from since 7 years.there is no bloody stool she has only pain and heaviness weight loss. My query is about Sarphooka (Wild Indigo). This herb is effective in Enlarged Prostate?

Corn silk and Ssarphooka (wild indigo) boiled in one cup of water and drink it as a tea is very effective for urinary tract disorder and for enlarged prostate.
